Hi, I'm Jeremy.

Aspiring Software Engineer

I am a final year undergraduate software engineering student at the University of Technology Sydney. From a young age, I've been motivated and passionate about challenges in the digital space, with tinkering in web-development and robotics in high school inspiring me to become a software engineer. Among my many interests, I co-founded a digital agency in 2018 and have since assisted countless small local businesses.

Places I’ve Worked

1

Telstra – Customer Advisor | Feb 2020 - Jan 2021

As a customer advisor in the retail industry, my job is to understand situations from the customer's point of view in order to recommend the best products and solutions. This role provided me with the opportunity to develop strong interpersonal skills through communication with team members and customers, as well as sales experience by requiring me to meet monthly KPIs.

Otheus - Co-Founder & Full Stack Developer | Oct 2018 – Present

My role as a full stack developer is to create both front-end and back-end web systems while keeping the user interface and experience in mind, as well as website and basic application development and database management. Use of CSS, JavaScript, Photoshop, and Illustrator are key skills gained from this role. Back-end development entails the use of HTML, JavaScript, and PHP, as well as strong communication and leadership abilities gained from working in small teams.
3

Samsung – Galaxy Brand Expert | Mar 2018 - Jan 2020

As an 'Expert' for the Samsung Galaxy Brand, I had to work closely with multiple retail partners, providing training for upcoming products and engaging with customers. This role aided in the development of strong interpersonal skills gained through communication with large groups and customers, as well as excellent product knowledge of existing and upcoming technologies.

Some of my Achievements.

Recipient - Macquarie University Global Leadership (GLEP) Scholarship

This scholarship was awarded because of my entrepreneurial ambitions as well as my extracurricular involvement within robotics.

Grade - Distinction Grade Average

Maintained a distinction grade average throughout my studies as a software engineering student at UTS.

Why should I be a part of your team?

Leader

Strong leadership experience demonstrated through running a digital agency managing a small team.

Problem Solver

Passionate for challenged as demonstrated through my extracurricular involvement within FIRST robotics, creating specialised mechanisms to solve complex challenges.

Strong Communicator

Great communicator having to frequently discuss upcoming projects with business owners and communicating with team members from various previous roles.

Creative

Creatively minded as shown from my involvements with front-end development at Otheus, creating visually appealing websites.

Teamwork and Leadership

Throughout my journey of becoming a software engineering graduate, I’ve been able to consistently demonstrate my leadership and teamwork capabilities.

In 2016 I was part of an extracurricular robotics competition where our teamwork efforts ultimately contributed to my team competing within the finals in Houston Texas in 2017 as part of a school funded event. You can find out more through an article published by The Daily Telegraph.

In late 2018 my business partner and I founded Otheus, a digital agency start-up which aimed to help small business owners gain access to the online digital space through web development, branding and marketing services. This experience has taught and developed my communication and teamwork skills through engaging with business owners who face real world challenges.

Professional Experience

My most valuable experience as a software engineer came from my time running Otheus, an online digital agency. The company focuses on providing web development, branding, and marketing services to other small to medium-sized Australian businesses.

Through interacting with clients and team members, the experience of running an agency has taught me valuable communication and management skills. The experience has also allowed me to significantly improve my technical skill set through hands-on experience, allowing me to solve real-world work problems with software and seeing the challenges that other business owners face on a daily basis. Some of the businesses I’ve been able to assist are listed below:

Personal Goals

My short-term goals as a software engineer are to continue learning and developing my technical skillset, to understand why we build software the way we do, and to generally become better at my craft.

In the long-term, I hope to use the skills I’ve gained to contribute to something on a much larger scale, such as expanding my digital agency and delving into different kinds of software development.

Maintaining professional Currency

Although I do not intend to pursue further university studies at this time, I intend to continuously develop my skill set through practical applications and additional training in the form of online courses or those provided by an employer.

Commitment

My commitment to the engineering profession includes professional communication with engineering peers as well as membership within Engineers Australia. In the long run, as my technical skill set expands, I am confident that I will use these abilities to help individuals and businesses.
